For being such a huge hummus believer, it’s a real shocker how long it’s taken me to post one of my hummus recipes. My most common hummus consumption method is using it as a salad dressing replacer, which is genius by the way because it really complements all the veggies on my plate and adds an extra kick of flavor to any kind of protein I may choose to throw into the mix.

5 Ingredient Matcha Moringa Waffles

Waffles are my go-to meal when I’m in need for something hearty but am not willing to sacrifice a clean diet. And these Matcha Moringa waffles are the perfect exception to that. Praise God for all things paleo breakfast foods!!

You’re probably wondering what the heck is moringa, because I have to confess I had no clue it existed until a bag of moringa powder went on sale at Sprouts haha. But now that I’ve found it, I don’t see how I can ever part from it! For starters, this shrub of a plant is loaaaaded with antioxidants (just like matcha and berries), anti inflammatories, amino acids and vitamins A, B and C. It’s also vegan, a great source of plant protein and carries a really beautiful, rich green color without a strong “veggie” flavor (for those of you who are scared of bitter plant foods). The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) even states that all parts of this plant are edible, which I think is really cool. Chocolate Superfood Wookies

How sad; I’m not even two weeks in to my Spring semester and I’m already getting mad chocolate study cravings. This can’t be good… or can it? The trick to mastering the snack ordeal is to choose the right kinds of snacks to satisfy both your tastebuds and your nutrition goals. Most college students (or anyone really) think that healthy snacking is too expensive, unsatisfying and unrealistic. My counter to that? Those people just haven’t found the right healthy snacks! Well lucky for them things like the wookie were invented. You guessed it, half waffle half cookie. And how can something this amazing-looking actually be good for you? Well just like anything else you buy off the shelf, it’s all about the process, not just the product.

Vegan Superfood Peppermint Hot Cacao


Whelp, ’tis the season to be FREEZING my butt off because I’m still not used to cold weather! (Says the Hawai‘i girl living in SoCal…) Haha I know, I know- I have no reason to complain about cold weather what-so-ever because I really don’t know what it’s like to live in a frigid winter wonderland. But still! I don’t think I could ever get used to the cold no matter how small a change it may be; I’m just a sunshine girl to the bone. The good news is this drop in temperature has got me in the warm-beverage drinking spirit more than usual. I have been clutching my hot lemon water-filled thermos this week like there’s no tomorrow scurrying to class, but tonight I was in need of something a little more sweet and spirited.

Pumpkin Protein Balls


Like I mentioned yesterday in my Pumpkin Spice Sunflower Seed Waffles post, this Pumpkin Week idea of mine was a little more of a commitment than I had originally anticipated. But, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Blogging is a huge passion of mine and I love being able to share my thoughts and recipes with others interesting in bettering or expanding their knowledge on health and cooking wholesome, good-for-you foods. I hope you’ve enjoyed this past week of pumpkin overload as much as I have enjoyed sharing my various recipes with you. I also hope that I’ve changed some of your possible previous perspectives that pumpkin is only good for lattes and pies. This ingredient really is a force to be reckoned with, both in heath and cost, and I encourage you to further entice your imagination and try using it in everything. I’ve made pumpkin pasta, flatbread, pancakes and nana ice cream soft serve (just to name a few others) and would suggest you take advantage of this fall season staple by creating other recipes of your own!

The Quirky Combination- Kale Mango Lime Protien Smoothie

Monday is my absolute favorite day of the week. I could write a whole post as to why happy Mondays are the hidden secret to ultimate happiness and success, but I’ll save that for later. I know that’s not the easiest pill to swallow after an amazing weekend, which I hope all of you had. However, my number one favorite thing about Mondays is that hardly ANYONE else seems to like them. It makes me sad when I see people walking around with those “I hate Mondays” shirts because it’s basically like you’re setting yourself up for a crappy week that just began. Carpe diem people! Seize the day before it’s gone!

… Ok, I’m finished with my mini rant. Anyways, what better way to ring in this new week than with a freshly blended smoothie filled with super foods and seeds? Kale, as most already know (I say this because there’s a huge kale bandwagon frenzy currently sweeping the nation), is a powerhouse of an ingredient and does wonders for your digestive system, brain, energy levels, bones, skin and the list goes on. To read more about the amazing benefits of kale, check out this article. Kale is not only good for you but is also one of the most versatile superfoods out there. Use it to make salads, chips, stir-fries, soups, as a condiment and, of course, in smoothies! A word of caution- I promise kale smoothies won’t taste like a veggie garden only if you pair the right ingredients together.

3 Minute Vegan Green Tea Banana Ice Cream

Ok, can I first start off by saying that this picture does this recipe little to NO justice; I apologize and take full responsibility on not providing better visual images, but I could not wait to share recipe.

There are two things in life I really love- 1. Bananas and 2. Literally any green tea or green tea flavored food. So combine those two loves and what do you get? This magical mixture and one happy me! Banana ice creams are all the rave right now, especially in Hawai‘i with this ‘nana ice cream stand that opened up recently called Banan that people on O‘ahu just can’t seem to shut up about and stop Instagraming. Just a side note, Banan is a really cool farm-to-table Hawai‘i business that supports local famers, and if you’re ever VISITING O‘ahu you should definitely check them out. However, if you have access to a good blender and your favorite kinds of fruit then save yourself $6-$10 and make all their recipes yourself. This ‘nana ice cream recipe is easy, simple, affordable, a way better alternative to real ice cream and frozen yogurt and full of nutrients from the matcha powder. I even made it for my boyfriend and his family while visiting them on Kaua‘i this summer and they LOVEEED it! Here’s the gist.
